Buying guide

Buying blanket material by the roll

Rolls make sense when you need custom sizes or a lot of coverage.

Width

Choose a width close to the size you need most so you make fewer cuts. Common widths include 36, 40 and 60 inches.

Weight and coating

Heavier rolls and vermiculite coatings handle more heat and slag. Lighter rolls are easier to drape and fold.

Cutting

Use sharp shears or a utility knife. Coated material frays less at the edges than plain fiberglass.

Storage

Keep rolls dry and off the floor. Moisture and crushing shorten the life of the material.

Good to know

When a roll beats pre-cut

If you're covering a large floor area, lining a booth or making equipment covers, a roll is usually more efficient than several pre-cut blankets.

For quick, standard coverage around a single station, pre-cut blankets are faster to put to work.

Cut exactly what the job needs.

FAQ

Blanket roll questions

How long is a blanket roll?

Roll length varies by product. Check each listing for the exact length and width.

Can I cut a vermiculite blanket roll?

Yes. Use sharp shears or a knife and wear gloves and long sleeves when cutting.

Do the edges need to be finished?

For most uses, no. If edges fray with heavy handling, you can fold them over or use metal grommets to reinforce them.

Which roll is best for floors?

For floors and falling slag, heavier rolls with a vermiculite coating are a common choice.
