Buying guide

Choosing a drivers glove

Drivers gloves look alike, but the leather and lining change how they feel and how long they last.

Leather

Goatskin is soft with great feel. Pigskin breathes and dries soft. Cowhide is the toughest. Deerskin is very supple and comfortable.

Grain or split

Grain leather is smoother and tighter. Split leather is rougher and usually more affordable.

Lined or unlined

Unlined gloves give the most feel. Fleece or thermal lining adds warmth for cold mornings.

Cut protection

Some drivers add a Kevlar or ANSI-rated lining, so you get cut resistance in a familiar style.

Good to know

Why they're called drivers gloves

The style started as a glove for drivers: a slim fit, a keystone thumb for grip and an elastic wrist that keeps debris out. Those same traits make it a go-to for general work.

If you're loading trucks, pulling cable or handling tools all day, a drivers glove is a simple, comfortable option.

Simple, close-fitting and ready for nearly any job.

FAQ

Drivers glove questions

Are drivers gloves good for welding?

They're not made for welding. Use a dedicated MIG, TIG or stick glove near the arc.

How should a drivers glove fit?

Snug, with no loose leather at the fingertips. The elastic wrist should hold the glove in place without pinching.

What's an ANSI drivers glove?

It's a drivers glove with an ANSI/ISEA 105 cut rating, usually from a cut-resistant liner. The listing shows the level.

Are insulated drivers gloves bulky?

They're a little thicker than unlined gloves, but the drivers cut keeps them close-fitting compared to most winter gloves.
