Buying guide
Build your kit from the top down
Most welding injuries come from gaps between pieces of gear. Work through each zone and make sure they overlap.
Head and neck
A welding cap or FR hood under your helmet, plus a helmet bib, keeps sparks off your scalp, ears and neck.
Torso and arms
FR clothing as your base layer, then a welding jacket, cape sleeves or sleeves depending on how much spatter you face.
Hands
A glove matched to your process: thin for TIG, balanced for MIG, heavy with a long cuff for stick.
Front and legs
An apron or bib protects your lap during bench work, and FR pants protect from sparks that fall.
Good to know
Overlap is everything
Sleeves should tuck into glove cuffs. Jackets should cover your waistband when you reach. Pant legs should cover the tops of your boots.
A quick check in the mirror with your arms extended and your body bent forward will show you where sparks could get in.
Every piece should overlap the next.

FAQ
Welding safety questions
What PPE do I need for welding?
At minimum, most welders wear a helmet, safety glasses, welding gloves, FR clothing and leather boots. Heavier work adds a jacket, sleeves, apron or bib. Your employer's safety program sets the requirements.
Can I wear regular jeans and a T-shirt to weld?
Synthetic fabrics can melt and ordinary cotton can ignite. FR clothing resists ignition and stops burning once the flame source is removed.
What's a helmet bib?
It's an FR or leather flap that attaches to the bottom of your welding helmet to protect your neck and throat from sparks and UV.
Do you sell PPE for crews?
