TIG Welding Gloves

TIG welding is precise work, so the glove has to disappear in your hand. These are thin kidskin, goatskin and deerskin gloves built for fingertip control when you're feeding filler rod and working the torch.

Buying guide

How to pick a TIG glove

TIG gloves trade bulk for feel. Here's what separates one from the next.

Leather and feel

Kidskin (young goat leather) is the thinnest and most supple. Goatskin is a touch tougher. Deerskin is very soft and comfortable on long sessions.

Cuff length

Short cuffs keep your wrist free for fine work. Long cuffs cover the gap between glove and sleeve if you weld out of position.

Heat pads

Some TIG gloves add a CushionCore or DragPatch layer on the outside of the hand, where it rests on hot work. It lets you keep a thin glove without cooking your pinky.

Cut resistance

Gloves with an A3 cut rating add a liner that helps protect you from sharp edges on thin sheet and tubing.

Good to know

Why TIG gloves are so thin

TIG produces far less spatter than MIG or stick, so you don't need heavy leather. What you do need is control: holding the torch steady while your other hand feeds rod into the puddle.

A thinner glove gives you that control, but it also means less heat protection. If you're running higher amperage on thick aluminum, a slightly heavier goatskin or a glove with a heat pad can be a better fit.

Fit matters more here than with any other glove. Look for a snug fit with no extra material at the fingertips.

The best TIG weld starts with a glove you forget you're wearing.

FAQ

TIG glove questions

What's the difference between kidskin and goatskin?

Both come from goats. Kidskin is from younger animals, so it's thinner and softer. Goatskin is a little thicker and more durable while still offering good feel.

Are TIG gloves heat resistant enough for MIG?

Usually not for long runs. TIG gloves are thin by design, so MIG spatter and heat can get through quickly. Pair them with the right process.

Do TIG gloves come in women's sizes?

Yes. The AngelFire line from Black Stallion includes TIG gloves cut for women's hands, and many styles run down to XS.

How should a TIG glove fit?

Snug, with your fingertips reaching the ends of the glove fingers. Loose leather at the tips makes it harder to feed rod smoothly.

Can I wash TIG gloves?

Leather gloves don't do well in a washer. Wipe them with a damp cloth and let them air dry away from direct heat to keep the leather soft.
